Pablo Neruda (12 July 1904 - 23 September 1973)
Often considered the ‘National Poet of Chile,’ Pablo Neruda was one of the most talented poets of his generation. He began writing at the age of 13 and throughout his career encompassed many styles including surrealism, historical epics, political manifestos, and passionate love poems.
Neruda won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1971. Here is one of his poems titled, Sonnet XVII. This poem is an absolutely moving piece that beautifully captures the essence of what it means to love someone. You may recognize it from the film, Patch Adams. Enjoy :)
