Samsung just announced the Galaxy Book S, a new ultralight laptop powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8cx processor, onstage at its Unpacked event. It looks a little less like a Surface Laptop than we originally thought when we first saw the leaks, but it’s not far off. More importantly, with that Qualcomm processor it will perform much differently: with much longer battery life, but much less horsepower.
What happens when you take the most powerful smartphone parts, add a thirteen inch monitor, and start running windows? You get a possibly under-powered laptop with always on internet and a seemingly impossible battery life.
Samsung is attempting to take the best parts of a smartphone and a laptop and combine them. I'm not sure if there is a true market for this product. Time till tell if the processor can actually hold up to daily use. Points to Samsung for at least trying something different and maybe being the first in a new trend of less powerful but super mobile computers.
Anyone remember netbooks?
