  • Blue Ocean

Funny. But surely this would never work as the whole point of being vegan is to not eat animals. I would think that a lot of vegetarians/vegans would be put off eating it if they saw it like this.

  • Taylor

As a vegetarian, I think this is really funny. I’d eat it!

  • willow

if you’re a vegan and you’re put off by eating fruit in the shape of an animal, you probably should re-evaluate your stance on animals in general. this is obviously oranges and melons and whatnot, and i would love to see the first vegan who wouldn’t eat his little canteloupe claws, just to punch him in the face.

  • Sarah

I’m a veggie and I don’t think something like this would be off putting for many people. Kind of the same deal as eating a teddy bear cake or a chocolate frog.

    I think it’s really cute! ^_^

  • CoolVegan

    Lighten up Ocean. It’s funny.

  • Elizabeth

Blue Ocean: actually, surprisingly enough, most vegans and vegetarians can tell the difference between seafood and fruit.

  • Terry

This is cute. I’m a vegetarian, and I’d definitely eat this. It’s still just fruit. This seems perfect as a way to serve fruit at a summery beach-themed party. :3

  • tallgreencow

umm . . . get a grip. it is not an animal, it is not made of animal. it is a plate of fruit arranged to look like a lobster. it is delightful and anyone, vegan/vegetarian or otherwise, would enjoy eating it.
    seriously, it’s adorable!

  • sparkle11189

    thats awesome!!

vegans and vegetarians would totally like this. (im vegetarian and i do!) i think its fun, and it would be great for kids :) i don’t care if something is pretending to be meat, so long as it isn’t actually meat. How do you think that products like Morning Star Farms and Quorn do business?

  • Tololololo

    ˆˆ
    TITS OR GTFO

  • Holly GoLightly

    This is adorable!

Hey Blue Ocean – not sure if you are aware of this, but that is not a real lobster. Most vegans with any grasp on reality will find this cute and eat his little mango claws. nomnomnom.

  • Anony

All I have to say is this: this is fruity…

  • brea

i love this, i agree with Terry this would be so perfect for a summer dessert or just a cute fruit salad. and as far as being put off by it, wtf has to be wrong with you to be offended by a fruit lobster

  • http://www.etsy.com/shop/HowFetching Nicole

This is hella cute! I’m a vegetarian and I think it’s just precious!

  • http://www.thedomesticvegan.com Jess – The Domestic Vegan

    This is adorable! (I’m vegan & I’d eat it because shockingly enough, I can tell it’s not a real lobster… ;) )

  • SERIOUS VEGAN: NO FUN ALLOWED.

Seriously guys, this is so cruel.

Fruit in the shame of a lobster, I am shocked and appalled by you all.

I refuse to even eat small bananas because they are reminiscent of agorillas penis, My God I would know, I REALLY love animals.

  • mE

i am not a vegan, but eat kosher, and i can tell it’s not a real sea dweller, so it’s not the meat that blinds one to where they cannot distinguish between lobster and fruit. i would like to see the creator make squid, clams, octopus and a whole variety of treif to poke fun at them.

  • James Wolff

If you’re vegan and think this is cute… try REAL LOBSTER or REAL MEAT… we were meant to eat it that’s why Humans are Omnivores… unless as a vegan you’re not a real Human?

  • Sarah Anne

I’m vegetarian and I think its cute! I wouldnt think of it in a “I’m eating the representation of an animal” kind of way. Although, I am put off by eating animal substitutes. I cant bring myself to eat things like fake chicken nuggets. Doesn’t eating a meat substitute defeat the purpose of NOT eating meat? I don’t take vegetarians who eat meat substitutes that seriously in their beliefs.

  • Laura

Well, I’m vegan and I think it’s adorable. To Sarah Anne, I also eat fake meat products… doesn’t really matter as long as no animals are harmed. If you like the taste then it’s fine to eat them.

  • http://mitchmcquinn.blogspot.com Mitch

I’m vegetarian, and an artist. This is awesome.

  • Melanie

I’m vegan and think it’s hilarious!

  • Molly

That’s the greatest assortment of fruit I have ever seen :D Bravo.

Sarah Anne: Unless someone’s reason for not eating meat is that they do not like meat, what’s wrong with them eating meat substitutes? Like Laura said, if it’s not supporting animal cruelty, it’s perfectly fine. So no, it absolutely does NOT defeat the purpose. Lololol.

  • Tony

I am allergic to lobster, so would be really risky to eat this! If however it is real fruit, disguised as lobster, then I really feel that someone needs to liberate fruit

  • http://www.myspace.com/jaymentheskywithdiamonds Jayme

I think this is adorable, I love it!
I eat meat substitutes… I’m a vegetarian… its just like my take on faux fur… if nothing REALLY died for it… I’m all for it.

  • http://www.kako.com kako

The thing is vey simple…it all depends on WHAT you really believe…if you truly believe in Animal Liberation cause and you consider yourself to be an antispecist, then I think you shouldn’t eat it…it doesn’t have any meat it’s truth but it mises the whole point of one of most important fundaments of veganism…now if you just consider yoursel a vegan/vegetarian that doesn’t eat meat because animals are harmed, so go head! what ever you choose is fine, but I dont think I’d eat it…as I wouldn’t eat candys with baby faces on it.

  • Estella

“I wouldn’t eat candys with baby faces on it.”

Why not? They have cakes shaped like babies too; honestly, they taste fine, and I’m no cannibal. Nor do I think I miss the point of any “important fundaments [sic]” of not /being/ a cannibal. I definitely do not believe, as an eater of baby representations, that they ought to be kept in cages and fed on bits of other babies. Additionally, as a strict vegetarian, I do not think that fruit lobsters endanger the movement. It’s cute.

    Anyway, hard-”core” lobster. …Get it?

  • alyssa

I think that “fake” meat products- take Morningstar veggie burgers for example- are totally okay to eat as a vegetarian/vegan. From the Morningstar website, the ingredients listed in the burger are: “mushrooms, water chestnuts, onion, carrots, green and red bell peppers, black olives, brown rice, and rolled oats.” All those ingredients sound delicious, and they ARE delicious all rolled together in the shape of a burger and thrown on the grill. If you imagine the outcome being something other than a veggie-representation of the burger, then it becomes guilt-free!

Anyway, I love this lobster. Looks super yummy!

  • Elise G

hahahahh yeah I’m vegan and I think its adorable. I would def eat it

  • Robert

No, I agree with Blue Ocean.
As humans, we’re all about symbolism; our letters, numbers, flags, money, exit signs, you name it. Now, vegetarians don’t generally have the deep beliefs regarding our relationship with animals that vegans often do, so I’d be surprised if a vegetarian were to feel uncomfortable. Vegans, though, are another matter completely. Apparently some of you don’t have a stiff-lipped stance that many vegans I know would, but I’m actually a bit surprised to see so many of you chirping about how ‘cute’ it is. : /

  • poopoo

i’m not vegan in matter of fact i eat bloody meat and i think this is delicious but not meaty enough…sorry folks

  • simon

been a non judgemental vegan for nearly 14 years. this is absolutely HILARIOUS. Id gladly munch a fruit lobster! Blue Ocean, your obviously an idiot. Fruit is not an animal.

  • amber

Im a vegan. i have to say i agree with robert about the symbolism. however, it can be much worse than that, there are veggie dogs and veggie burgers. even though i don’t eat those often as im not a fan of imitation meat, me, and most vegans do sometimes. this isnt even imitation, its completely fruit. and i think its fun making food in the shape of things!

  • Dani

Not to beat the dead horse, but I would totally eat it! As a vegan, should I discuss abuse against a metaphorical horse?

  • NotAVegan

Vegans are LESS concerned with animal-rights, and MORE concerned about eating the healthiest possible diet (meat is not included, go figure).

  • J

NotAVegan: many vegans and vegetarians are very passionate about animal rights. What rock have you been living under? However, it’s true that some choose an herbivorous diet for health reasons alone.

There are many reasons to choose a flesh-free or totally animal-free diet, including belief that all life is sacred, protest against/concern with inhumane treatment of animals raised for food, health concerns with animal flesh/products in general, health concerns with the methods currently used in mass production of animal products, dislike of the taste of meat, cultural or religious traditions, etc etc etc or some combination of the above.

Don’t make assumptions about someone’s beliefs based on their diet.

Having said that, this vegetarian thinks the fruity crustacean looks pretty sweet. Think you’ll be hard-pressed to find many vegans/vegetarians who would be offended by that.

  • Vegan

A few things: since when does have a specialized diet make it okay for you to judge others for their eating preferences? Fake meat products were designed to give vegans/vegetarians additional food options. In a society where eating is a very social activity, it can be a relief to grab a veggie burger while out with friends once in a while. Deciding not to eat meat doesnt make you any more special or enlightened than anyone else on the planet. Respecting other people’s food choices opens the door for them to respect, and thereby, (hopefully) understand your eating choices. Looking down on vegans that eat fake meat products is just silly and counterproductive, as is looking down on omnivores. It just makes people think that vegans are jerks.

  • Cara

I will have to disagree with you blue ocean. I think its beautiful and i would totally eat it haha!
Food in the shape of animals is fine like animal cookies and what nots…. i mean i would eat a cookie in the shape of a gun or even my mom ya know :)

  • http://www.biketoworkbarb.blogspot.com Barb Chamberlain

As a vegetarian I’m absolutely tickled by this. My meat-eating husband, on the other hand, refers to all shelled creatures as the spiders of the sea and won’t eat them. This creeps him out because it has eyes.

Beauty and “edibility” (edibleness?) really are in the eyes of the beholder.

    @BarbChamberlain

  • Brooke

all the vegans i know, myself included, do it for health reasons. the standard american diet is disgustingly unhealthy. i still love my leather jacket, things made of glass, and using glue.

  • whats-a-vhagen?

    @ Sarah Anne,

as a vegan who eats and makes my own “meat substitutes” (seitan and the basis of quorn date back over 1000 years, when they were considered utility foods), i feel that eating them doesn’t fall anywhere close to the politics of why we should not consume.

    @notAvegan

dude, what? maby 16 year olds and hipsters yeah…

  • Tabitha

I would devour that little fruit crustacean in a hot second.

  • Aya

As long as it doesn’t include banana. Bananas are fish don’t cha know……

  • Kelsey

i’m a vegan and would totally eat this! it’s obviously all fruit, positioned like a lobster. it’s funny. if you move one thing out of place, it’s no longer in the shape of a lobster and therefore all you against it would probably eat it. it’s the shape, not the animal. i’m completely against eating any animal product, but i would eat this because IT’S NOT AN ANIMAL! :)
